NFL free agency: Which teams have spent most, least amount of money in 2025?

New year, new team.
The NFL rang in the new league year at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12, signaling the start of another season is inching closer. That's not the only thing it meant though.
A new year means new spending, as 32 teams whipped out their credit cards and checkbooks, eager to improve their rosters for 2025.
Some like to be a little more frivolous than others, with the idea that spending will equate to wins down the road. Others prefer to cling to their precious cap space, waiting for the right player to come along at the right time.
However, there is no one way to build a football team and spending in free agency is just another example of that. Here's a look at where the money is coming from this year.
Which NFL team spent the most money in free agency 2025?
The Minnesota Vikings have been the biggest spenders of free agency in 2025, dishing out over $243.4 million in total contract value, per OverTheCap, since the signing period began.
It covers the contracts for just seven players and notably doesn't include Sam Darnold, who departed for the Seattle Seahawks. Instead, the Vikings are taking full advantage of their excess cap space, attempting to build a contender around J.J. McCarthy, who is still on a rookie contract.
Which NFL team spent the least money in free agency 2025?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the most frugal team in free agency, spending just over $22.9 million, per OverTheCap. They have been more active in the trade market, adding DK Metcalf from Seattle and extending him on a deal that will cost $30 million per year on average.
This figure accounts for just four players but will certainly grow whenever Pittsburgh finds their quarterback for the 2025 season.
