Much like ending world hunger and achieving world peace, the New York Jets quarterback room continues to be a problem left unsolved.

New York has spent over half a century trying to find a quarterback capable of delivering another Super Bowl to the green-and-white. They've spent a good portion of that time trying to find one capable of delivering a playoff appearance.

On Wednesday, "Gang Green" added another one to the list of misses.

Jordan Travis, the former Florida State quarterback, medically retired from the NFL. He never recovered from a catastrophic left leg suffered during his final college season, forcing the 24-year-old to hang up the cleats.

New York invested a fifth-round pick in Travis during the 2024 NFL Draft. Now the Jets will turn their attention elsewhere, hoping someone can stabilize the quarterback room.

Here's a look at the Jets' depth chart following the Travis news.

Jets QB depth chart

  1. Justin Fields
  2. Tyrod Taylor
  3. Adrian Martinez
  4. Brady Cook

If there was any doubt that Fields is the Jets' starter heading into 2025, that is now gone after the NFL draft. New York decided against taking a quarterback in the draft, signaling to the world that Fields is their guy for what they hope is this season and beyond.

The Jets are betting on being able to reach Fields' untapped potential, something he hasn't been able to do in Chicago or Pittsburgh.

He signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets in free agency.

It's up to Tanner Engstrand, the new offensive coordinator, to make that investment a worthwhile one. If he can't or Fields doesn't produce, the Jets will be looking for a new quarterback in next year's draft.

Fields will once again have a veteran presence behind him next season. Unlike Russell Wilson, Taylor was signed to be a backup. He could challenge for the starting job if things go south, but there is a clearly defined order of quarterbacks on the roster right now.

Martinez, an undrafted free agent who played for New York in the preseason last year, checks in as QB3. He spent most of the season on the practice squad and was later signed to a futures contract in January.

Cook rounds out the depth chart as an undrafted free agent signing following the 2025 draft.

Martinez and Cook will now have the chance to compete for a roster spot, but it seems likely that the Jets will only carry two quarterbacks on the active roster.
