Jalen Ramsey trade rumors: Sean McVay calls CB 'total stud' amid Rams interest

The Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey appear to be heading for a divorce. The two parties mutually agreed to seek a trade, so the three-time All-Pro could end up playing for a new NFL team in 2025.
That said, it could also end up being a club familiar to Ramsey. One of his former teams has an apparent interest in re-acquiring him: the Los Angeles Rams.
Rams coach Sean McVay has been routinely asked about trading for Ramsey since the mid-April report about the Dolphins seeking a trade. At every step, the 39-year-old coach has given his former Super Bowl-winning starter glowing reviews.
The most recent came in an appearance on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio, when Adam Schein asked McVay his opinion of Ramsey.
"He is a total stud," McVay said, as transcribed by ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, "and you look at – obviously he has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father."
Ramsey performed well across three-and-a-half seasons with the Rams after being acquired via trade ahead of the 2019 NFL trade deadline. He made back-to-back All-Pro teams in his first two full seasons with the Rams and helped them to win Super Bowl 56 in his penultimate campaign with the team.
The Rams have struggled to find high-quality cornerback play since Ramsey's departure. Ahkello Witherspoon was their highest-graded cornerback for the 2024 NFL season, ranking 53rd among 116 qualifiers at the position by Pro Football Focus and allowing a 103.1 passer rating.
As such, Ramsey – who graded 10th overall and allowed a passer rating of 93.5 – would represent a major upgrade, even as he enters his age-31 season.
Still, McVay wouldn't guarantee the Rams would land Ramsey, noting "there are a lot of layers" in potentially acquiring him, both from a financial and asset-driven perspective. He also expects there to be a strong interest in Ramsey around the league.
But as McVay and general manager Les Snead have made it clear during their time running the franchise, the Rams won't be afraid to get aggressive if they believe Ramsey will be a needle-mover.
"We’re never gonna shy away from opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our roster or add great players, as long as it fits within the framework of everything that an acquisition like that would entail," McVay said.
