Saints schedule 2025: New Orleans win-loss record predictions

The New Orleans Saints have long been skirting salary cap issues to keep themselves competitive in the winnable NFC South. The 2024 season began to show that strategy would not be sustainable for the Saints.
New Orleans started the season with an offensive explosion in its first two games. From there, the team lost seven consecutive games and fired coach Dennis Allen after its Week 9 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Darren Rizzi guided the Saints the rest of the way, and the team finished the season at 5-12, marking their worst record since the 2005 NFL season.
Many expected the Saints to undergo a rebuild and reset their salary cap given their performance. However, general manager Mickey Loomis continued to add veterans to New Orleans' roster in the hopes of remaining competitive during the 2025 NFL season.
The Saints were dealt a curveball when Derek Carr realized he had a significant shoulder injury during an offseason workout. He and New Orleans assessed their options but ultimately, the veteran announced his retirement a couple of weeks after the 2025 NFL Draft.
Will the Saints remain competitive with second-round rookie Tyler Shough as their top quarterback? Paste BN Sports is predicting New Orleans' record as the 2025 NFL schedule release approaches.

Record prediction: 4-13
It will be difficult for the Saints to improve upon their 5-12 record from last season. The team is in the midst of an on-the-fly rebuild and doesn't have a proven quarterback to lead its offense.
Shough is the favorite to take over for Carr and brings seven years of college experience into his rookie season. That should allow the 25-year-old's transition to the professional level to be a bit smoother than other rookies.
That said, New Orleans doesn't exactly have a strong supporting cast around Shough. Chris Olave is a good No. 1 receiver, but he played just eight games last season because of a variety of injuries. Meanwhile, running back Alvin Kamara is entering his age-30 season and has averaged just 3.9 yards per carry over his last four seasons.
If those two aren't performing at a high level, the Saints could struggle to score points consistently. Their defense may also be problematic, as the unit ranked 24th in defensive EPA last season but didn't have many significant additions outside of former Chiefs safety Justin Reid.
The one positive for the Saints is that they don't have a very strong schedule. They have the third-easiest projected schedule, per Sharp Football Analysis. That could allow Kellen Moore's squad to eke out some extra close wins over lower-level competition.
Still, it's hard to be overly optimistic about the state of the Saints. They may bottom out this season before fully rebooting their roster in 2026.
