The New York Giants are one of the NFL's most storied and respected franchises. If you're a new fan of the game, you might not realize the rich history the Giants have, but longtime fans understand the respect and legacy this team brings to the table.

It's been 100 years since Tim Mara purchased and founded the Giants in 1925. The franchise has won eight championships and produced some of the greatest players to step between the lines. Big Blue is one of the most iconic teams in the NFL, although it may not seem that way if you've been following them for the last two years.

Since 2023, the Giants have posted a record of just 9-25, and the team finished with a record of 3-14 last season. That marked only the seventh time in the Super Bowl era that New York won three or fewer games in a season.

Quarterback Daniel Jones was released after Week 10, due to his part in the Giants' 2-8 start. Jones was released a year after signing a four-year, $160 million extension. Adding salt to the wound, the organization and its fans watched former Giants running back Saquon Barkley explode with the Philadelphia Eagles, helping guide them to a Super Bowl win.,

Giants general manager Joe Schoen got work this offseason, bringing in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to shore up the QB room. They also added proven vets to bolster the defense in cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland.

Additionally, the Giants had a strong draft highlighted by edge rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick. They also made a splash by trading back into the first round to select QB Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss.

Record prediction: 5-12

There's little doubt the Giants have made significant strides in improving the roster heading into 2025.

The defense could finish inside the top 10 with an impressive front seven comprised of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter. The secondary also got a facelift with playmakers in Adebo and Holland.

The biggest issue for the G-Men is the NFC East. The division has the defending Super Bowl champions (Eagles) and the NFC runners-up (Commanders), who New York will have to face a combined four times. The Cowboys also return a much healthier roster in 2025 ensuring those two meetings will be no cakewalk.

The offense will likely see leadership and improved playmakers under center, with Russell Wilson expected to get the first stab at the starting job. The 13-year vet started 11 games with the Steelers in 2024, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. He posted a QBR of 51.4 (22nd), but the offense bottomed out in the last month of the regular season.

Wilson is not the same player who took the league by storm in Seattle, but he remains one of the NFL's better deep-ball passers. He had a league-high 56% adjusted completion rate on throws of 20 or more yards in 2024. He led the Steelers to a 6-1 record in his first seven games before losing the final five games, including a playoff loss.

Even if Winston takes the reigns, the likelihood of the Giants winning over half of a dozen games remains slim. Winston went 2-5 as a starter last year with the Browns, throwing 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in those games.

Dart will need time to develop before taking over, and it's unlikely he would outduel the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, Jordan Love, Justin Herbert or Bo Nix in his first year, even if he does play.

The Giants own the toughest schedule in the league, per Sharp Football Analysis; Six of their eight home opponents were playoff teams in 2024. Their matchups against the 49ers, Raiders, Patriots and Saints could all be winnable, but three of those come on the road.

New York probably isn't ready to challenge for a playoff spot in 2025, but the team should be more competitive than last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Giants finish close to .500, as they could field one of the better defenses in the league. It's more likely they will finish at the bottom of the NFC East for the third time in five seasons.
