Giants sign first-round Abdul Carter pick to rookie deal

Since he was drafted, the focus and attention on Abdul Carter has been surrounding his number.
His jersey number has been determined, at least for the moment, but a much more important one was finalized on Thursday – the contract.
Carter officially signed his four-year, $45.2 million fully guaranteed rookie deal with the New York Giants, the team announced. The No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft picked up the third most valuable contract in the draft and the biggest for any defensive player thanks to the slotted nature of rookie deals.
It ends any possibility of a mini-holdout for Carter, meaning he'll be available for all the offseason activities throughout the remainder of the offseason.
Here's what to know about Carter's first NFL contract:
Abdul Carter contract details
Carter inked a fully guaranteed four-year, $45.2 million deal with the Giants.
It carries an average annual value (AAV) of around $11.2 million and a signing bonus of $29.4 million, according to Spotrac. The total value of the deal is about $3 million less than what the No. 1 pick, Cam Ward, received from the Tennessee Titans.
NFL rookie contracts are slotted, meaning the player's draft position determines their contract. They are fixed and limit the haggling in negotiations to things like offset language.
The Penn State product was considered to be arguably the best player in the class. Now he'll have the chance to prove that on the field for a Giants team that has a history of producing star pass rushers.
