Anthony Richardson injury update: Colts' QB to miss minicamp with shoulder issue

Anthony Richardson is potentially entering a make-or-break year for the Indianapolis Colts. So far, it's trending towards the latter for the third-year quarterback.
Availability has been a concern for Richardson since entering the league as the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He's played in just 15 games across two seasons, throwing 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
His presence hasn't necessarily translated to winning either, with the team going 8-7 in those starts.
Now with some competition in the quarterback room following the signing of Daniel Jones, Richardson runs the risk of falling behind in the race for the starting gig as he deals with another injury.
Here's what to know about the quarterback's absence.
Anthony Richardson injury update
Richardson is dealing with a shoulder injury that will keep him out of Colts mandatory minicamp, which is slated for June 10-12.
Head coach Shane Steichen noted that the injury deals with Richardson's throwing shoulder and is an aggravation of a previous AC joint issue. The belief is that he won't need surgery.
That previous shoulder ailment dates back to the quarterback's rookie season when he suffered the injury in a Week 5 contest against the Tennessee Titans. It ultimately proved to be a season-ending injury, costing Richardson 12 games and required surgery.
The 23-year-old's season came to an early end last year as well when he dealt with back and foot-related issues. In addition to his benching in 2024 for taking himself out of a Week 8 game against the Houston Texans, Richardson has also been forced to navigate injuries to his shoulder, hip, back, and foot as well as a concussion during his young NFL career.
