Neither the Michigan Panthers nor the DC Defenders have won a spring football championship since their 2022 USFL reboot. That is set to change as they face off in the 2025 UFL championship game.
Michigan and DC both earned impressive wins in their conference championships. The Panthers knocked off the three-time reigning champion Birmingham Stallions in a 44-29 shootout. Quarterback Bryce Perkins and running back Toa Taua each put in quality showings, allowing Michigan's balanced attack to consistently move the ball against a solid Stallions defense.
Meanwhile, the Defenders rode a stellar defensive effort of their own to a 36-18 win over the St. Louis Battlehawks. Blake Williams' defense racked up five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception while limiting the Battlehawks to just 240 yards.
DC's defense will have a tougher task trying to contain Michigan's offense, which averaged a league-best 24.5 points per game during the regular season. That said, the Defenders could potentially go blow-for-blow with the Panthers if quarterback Jordan Ta'amu – who led the UFL with 17 touchdowns last season – can play well.
