It's a mega-deal for your Monday.

In addition to trading three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the Miami Dolphins are also sending tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers as part of the same trade that reunites the team with safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Smith will also get a contract extension as part of the deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Smith had been in contract extension negotiations with the Dolphins this offseason as he prepared to enter the final season of the two-year deal he signed with Miami in 2024. The eight-year veteran was looking to cash in after the most statistically productive season of his career: 88 receptions (career high) for 884 yards (career high) and eight touchdowns (tied previous career high).

Instead of staying with the Dolphins, Smith ends up in Pittsburgh and receives a one-year, $12 million extension from the Steelers.

It's the third time Smith will play under Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who coached the tight end with the Titans and the Falcons in previous stints.

Here are the full trade details that landed Smith (and Ramsey) in the AFC North:

Jonnu Smith trade details

Steelers receive:

  • TE Jonnu Smith
  • CB Jalen Ramsey
  • 2027 seventh-round pick

Dolphins receive:

  • S Minkah Fitzpatrick
  • 2027 fifth-round pick

The blockbuster deal that broke on Monday includes three players and a late-round pick swap in 2027.

Miami reunites with Fitzpatrick, whom the team originally drafted in 2018, and gets nearly $100 million in cumulative cap relief over the next five seasons.

The Steelers add to their offense and defensive secondary while providing Smith's sought-after extension and a pay bump for Ramsey, who will make an extra $1.5 million this year ($26.6 million total salary in 2025).
