A case involving Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was sent back to law enforcement for further investigation, according to Zara Lockshin, a public information specialist with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Perryman, 32, was released from Los Angeles County jail on Monday, Aug. 4 after being stopped Friday, Aug. 1 by South Los Angeles Station deputies for vehicle code violations, authorities said, and during a search deputies discovered five firearms in Perryman’s vehicle, two of which were assault style rifles.

"He was arrested and booked on weapons violation charges and was cooperative with deputies," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

No decision has been made to decline charges or forgo prosecution, the media relations department for the District Attorney's Office said Tuesday, Aug. 5.

"The case was reviewed by prosecutors for filing consideration and, on August 4, it was returned to law enforcement for further investigation,'' the statement read. "As of today, the case remains under active investigation. Once that process is complete, law enforcement may resubmit the case to our office for further review and consideration of potential charges.

"We remain committed to ensuring that all cases are thoroughly and fairly evaluated based on the evidence."
