The Chicago Bears offensive line lost its best offensive lineman in left guard Cody Whitehair on Sunday afternoon. Whitehair exited with a knee injury against the New York Giants.

On Wednesday, the Bears announced that Whitehair would be placed on injured reserve due to the knee injury. The news comes after Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters on Monday that Whitehair would be sidelined for a while

"Cody is going to miss some time," Eberflus said. "He has a knee injury and we're not exactly sure what that time frame is right now. Going forward, we will be with that same lineup that we had. We will see where that goes."

PREDICTIONS: Who will win in Week 5 between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings?

Whitehair has spent seven seasons with the Bears organization. He quickly became a stalwart along the offensive line and earned a Pro Bowl nomination in 2018. The Bears have used him across various spots during his 99 career starts.

"(Whitehair) is a guy that shows Chicago Bears toughness," Eberflus said. "That's Cody Whitehair. We are going to miss him for a little bit of time."

Whitehair earned a team-high 83.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, and he's been Chicago's most consistent offensive lineman this season. It's a brutal loss for a young group that's struggled to keep Justin Fields upright this season.

Eberflus later noted that the offensive line combination will be the same as it was following Whitehair's exit on Sunday. The group includes LT Braxton Jones, LG Lucas Patrick, C Sam Mustipher, RG Teven Jenkins, RT Larry Borom.
