Boomer Esiason blasts Bengals' 'horrific' uniforms and calls for an immediate 'redo'
Former Cincinnati quarterback Boomer Esiason didn't hold back how he felt about the franchise's new uniforms, calling for the Bengals to replace them as soon as possible.
"The one thing I will say – going into next year – the Bengals are going to have to redo their uniforms. They are just horrific. I don't like them," Esiason said on CBS Sports Radio's "Boomer and Gio" show.
Esiason, who played for the Bengals from 1984-1992 was NFL MVP in '88, said the orange and black combination has been designed well by Oklahoma State's NCAA football team. He also said the iconic orange helmet, while he's a fan, could be replaced with a white helmet to go with the "Color Rush" jerseys.
"They've just got too much stuff going on. Too much orange. Too many things happening on that uniform. They need to like - I want to say tone it down. It's hard to tone down tiger stripes, but you can. And I just think that the jerseys over the last couple, 15 years just have not been all that great looking."
The Bengals are ushering in the Joe Burrow era after selecting the Heisman Trophy winner first overall in last month's draft. Cincinnati checked in at No. 20 on Paste BN Sports' rankings of all NFL team jerseys.
Esiason is an NFL analyst for CBS Sports' "The NFL Today" and Showtime's "Inside the NFL." During his 14-year playing career he spent time with the Bengals, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals, and was a four-time Pro Bowler.
