Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals agree to four-year contract extension

Joe Mixon wasn’t at the start of Tuesday’s practice – and the running back had a valid reason.
The Cincinnati Bengals and Mixon were putting the finishing touches on a four-year contract extension, a person familiar with the situation told the Paste BN Network. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the deal.
Mixon even posted a picture on social media while his teammates were taking the practice field. Nobody minded his tardiness once he arrived at practice with a smile on his face.
Mixon had been battling migraines last week. His headaches appear to have subsided.
NFL Network reported Mixon’s new deal is worth four years and $48 million. The new extensions keeps him in Cincinnati for the next five seasons.
The 24-year-old running back’s 1,137 rushing yards last season ranked ninth in the league, 817 of those yards came in the second half of the season. In 2018, rushed for a career-high 1,168 yards. Coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Mixon is just the fifth running back in franchise history to top 1,000 yards more than once.
Mixon was entering the final year of his rookie deal prior to agreeing to an extension. The Bengals drafted the 6-foot-1 running back in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft.
“Joe (Mixon) is an important part of our team. He’s a piece that we’d like to get extended and have around here a long time,” Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin said last month.
