The day after winning the AFC championship game in Kansas City, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor provided an update on the status of tight end C.J. Uzomah.

Uzomah, one of the longest-tenured players on the roster, suffered a knee injury in the first half and was carted off the field at Arrowhead Stadium. Following the game during the trophy ceremony, Uzomah was present celebrating with his teammates.

Taylor said Uzomah sprained his MCL but is encouraged about his status.

"I don't know anything further at this point but it seems to be encouraging initially," Taylor said.

The Bengals have time on their side to try and get Uzomah back for their Super Bowl matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. NFL teams are given an extra week in between conference championship games before playing in the Super Bowl.

Uzomah has been one of quarterback Joe Burrow’s main targets this season. The seventh-year player out of Auburn caught 49 passes for 493 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season.

Bengals still finalizing travel plans for Los Angeles

Taylor said the Bengals are very much in the process of finalizing their travel plans to Los Angeles. The Bengals can either opt to stay in Cincinnati and practice next week or fly to California early in the week and practice out on the West Coast. Cincinnati will practice on a normal schedule next week with practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

“We're going to do what's best for our guys to make sure that we can get the prep work done here in town that we need to and try to keep things as business as usual this week and then figure out what we're going to do next week to get to warmer weather and kind of get a routine out there in California,” Taylor said. “We feel like we got that the structure of a good point in place. And we'll finalize that stuff today or early (Tuesday) morning."
