An injury to Trevor Siemian briefly put a familiar figure back in action for the Denver Broncos.

Brock Osweiler stepped in at quarterback in the second quarter of Sunday night's game against the New York Giants after Siemian hurt his shoulder, though the starter returned for the second half.

Siemian sustained the injury while attempting to tackle cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.

The game marked Osweiler's first action since signing with the team in March. Osweiler rejoined the team after going 5-2 as Peyton Manning's fill-in during the Broncos' 2015 campaign, which ended with a Super Bowl 50 title.

Osweiler then spurned the Broncos in the offseason to sign a four-year, $72 million deal with the Houston Texans. But he last just one season before being offloaded to the Cleveland Browns, who then released him before the start of the regular season.

The Broncos then signed Osweiler, who was owed $16 million from the Browns, for the veteran minimum to be Siemian's backup.
