Broncos release QB Chad Kelly following arrest
The Denver Broncos didn't waste any time parting ways with backup quarterback Chad Kelly after he was arrested for first-degree criminal trespassing early Tuesday morning. The team announced on Wednesday it has waived Kelly.
Kelly was the final pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and served as Case Keenum's backup this season. He entered the game two weeks ago against the Rams for a kneel-down before halftime.
Kelly, 24, has not attempted a pass in a regular season game. He entered the NFL with character concerns as he was dismissed from Clemson's football program due to conduct detrimental to the team.
At Ole Miss, he was named Sugar Bowl MVP following the 2015 season. In 2016, he suffered a torn ACL and was forced to miss the rest of the season.
