The Cleveland Browns called a bizarre play Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

With the ball on the 2-yard line, no timeouts and 15 seconds left in the first half, the Browns opted for a quarterback sneak.

DeShone Kizer was stopped for no gain, the clock ran out and fans were left befuddled.

So what exactly happened on that play? That answer, it turns out, depends on who you ask.

Multiple Browns players, including offensive lineman Joel Bitonio and tight end Seth DeValve, told The Plain Dealer after the game that Kizer audibled the play, which occurred with the Browns trailing 17-10.

"We had a different play called," DeValve told reporters. "DeShone took it upon himself to sneak it, which is not a bad thing to do."

Coach Hue Jackson, meanwhile, attempted to defend his rookie quarterback. When asked about the play in his postgame press conference, he said "it's on me" and "I'm mad at myself, nobody else."

When asked if Kizer audibled, Jackson doubled down.

"It doesn't matter. It's on me," Jackson said. "To go around and around about it, I'm not going to do that. Anything that happens with our offensive football team is my responsibility. So that's on me."

Kizer, who completed 21 of 37 passes for 232 yards with one touchdown and one interception, echoed Jackson's remarks.

"I think Coach addressed it in here," Kizer told reporters. "We've got to work to get better in the red zone. I'm out there calling the shots as a quarterback, so I've got to do whatever I can to get better in the red zone."

Kizer briefly left Sunday's game, which the Lions won, 38-24, with a rib injury. Jackson said after the game that X-rays on Kizer's ribs came back negative.

The Browns are now 0-9 on the season and have won just one of their past 28 games.
