SAN DIEGO -- Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians is expected to remain in a hospital overnight after feeling ill and experiencing stomach pain before Tuesday’s evening’s joint practice with the Chargers.

Arians underwent testing at the hospital, but there seemed to be a positive feeling around the team the coach would be back soon.

“He’ll be fine,” said one team source.

According to a team spokesman, Arians alerted the team’s medical staff that he was not feeling well prior to practice at Qualcomm Stadium. Arians was accompanied to the hospital by Dr. Wayne Kuhl, a team physician. Kuhl returned to Qualcomm Stadium before practice ended.

“It was definitely different, we missed him out there today,” said tight end Troy Niklas.

Prior to practice, both teams huddled with Chargers Coach Mike McCoy, then the Cardinals split to  meet briefly with their assistant head coach, Tom Moore.

Arians, 63, has enjoyed good health since becoming the Cardinals head coach in 2013. While offensive coordinator of the Colts, he missed a playoff game in the 2012 season with an inner ear infection.

The Cardinals are scheduled to practice against the Chargers on Wednesday afternoon.
