Cardinals RB James Conner scores twice in return to Pittsburgh

Cardinals dominate in Pittsburgh despite weather delays
Play was halted twice because of rain, but that didn't stop the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Arizona outscored the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-10 to claim their third victory of the season.
Cardinals running back James Conner, who began his career in Pittsburgh, had 25 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Kyler Murray completed 13 of 23 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. His primary target was tight end Trey McBride, who finished with eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Marquise "Hollywood" Brown left the game with a heel injury, while Emari Demercado left the game with a neck injury after a rough hit in the first quarter.
The Steelers played most of the game with backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky after starter Kenny Pickett went down with an ankle injury. Trubisky was 11-for-17 for 117 yards and a touchdown.
The teams had similar stats to produce such different point totals.
Both finished with 18 first downs. The Steelers outgained Arizona 317 to 282. The Cardinals were penalized six times for 51 yards, while the Steelers had nine penalties for 77 yards. The Steelers had the only turnover of the game — a Trubisky fumble that was recovered by Dante Stills.
The Cardinals (3-10) are off next week and return to action Dec. 17 when they host the 49ers at State Farm Stadium.
Steelers add late TD
Pittsburgh scored the first points of the game and then went silent.
It wasn't until just 4:25 remained that the Steelers scored a touchdown with Mitch Trubisky completed a 2-yard pass to Diontae Johnson.
By that time, the Cardinals had an insurmountable lead.
Trubisky was 11-for-17 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Cardinals add to lead
James Conner carried the ball 9 yards for a touchdown with 8:28 left in the fourth quarter.
Following the point after, the Cardinals hold a 24-3 lead over the Steelers.
Pittsburgh hasn't scored since the opening possession of the game.
Kyler Murray is 13-for-23 passing for 145 yards an a touchdown. His primary receiver has been tight end Trey McBride with eight catches for 89 yards and a TD.
Geoff Swaim is the only other receiver with more than one catch for the Cardinals.

Into the fourth
Blake Gillikin's 33-yard punt pinned the Steelers inside their own 5 early in the fourth quarter.
The punt was a bit of a letdown for Cardinals fans, who thought their team scored a touchdown two plays earlier only to see it called back because of a holding penalty.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Kyler Murray completed a 19-yard pass to Greg Dortch on third-and-12.
Play resumes and Steelers miss FG
Chris Boswell missed a 45-yard field goal after the Steelers and Cardinals resumed play in Pittsburgh.
Quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed a 25-yard pass to George Pickens, but the Cardinals kept the Steelers from doing much else.

Steelers-Cardinals game temporarily suspended, again
With 7:18 left in the third quarter, the game between the Steelers and Cardinals was suspended because of inclement weather. Fans in the open seating area were advised to take cover in the concourses.
It is the second such delay of the game. The first occurred immediately after halftime.
Players are expected to return to the field at 2:20 p.m. MST for a 10-minute warm up. The game is scheduled to resume at 2:30 p.m. MST.
That is subject to change.
Cardinals benefit from fumble recovery
On second-and-9, Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky fumbled the snap. The ball was recovered by Dante Stills at the Steelers 21.
The rain returned before a pass interference call gave the Cardinals a first-and-goal at the 1.
James Conner needed two carries, but he did reach the end zone for the Cardinals second TD of the game.
Prater's kick made it 17-3 Cardinals with 7:18 left in the third.

Cardinals punt in 2nd half
The Cardinals went three-and-out to start the second half.
Kyler Murray passed on all three downs, but the only completion was to James Conner for 6 yards.
Blake Gillikin did his part for the Cardinals with a punt of 62 yards that came to rest at the the Steelers 7.
The Steelers are playing without starting QB Kenny Pickett, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
Cardinals-Steelers delayed
The Arizona Cardinals game in Pittsburgh is expected to resume at 1:20 p.m. (Arizona).
The game was delayed during halftime because of severe weather, including lightning in the area.
The Cardinals lead the Steelers 10-3. Arizona will receive the kick to begin the second half.
Cardinals-Steelers set for wet second half
Midway through the second quarter, the rain began in Pittsburgh.
At half time, it was announced that the National Weather Service is forecasting severe conditions, including lightning and gusty winds. Fans in the stands were asked to take cover.
Acrisure Stadium is does not have a roof and the game could be delayed by server weather.
Cardinals go 99 yards for TD
Kyler Murray completed a 5-yard pass to Trey McBride at the goal
line for a touchdown that gave Arizona a lead over the Steelers.
The point after made it 10-3 Cardinals with 15 seconds left in the half.
On third-and-6 from the Pittsburgh 44, Murray completed a 17-yard pass to Trey McBride.
He continued to go to McBride on key plays. Murray went to him on second-and-17 and then on third-and-5. The result was a first down that brought the Cardinals to the Steelers 7.
Murray then found McBride at the back of the end zone, but the play that was initially ruled a touchdown was overturned on review.
Murray is now 9-for-16 for 95 yards and a touchdown. He was 6-for-7 on the TD drive.

Steelers QB injured vs. Cardinals
Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was injured when he dove for the end zone. He was slow to get up and left the field.
His return is questionable. He is listed has having an ankle injury.
Cardinals make goal-line stop
The Cardinals stopped the Steelers on fourth-and-goal from the 1.
The play came right after Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett was injured on a third-down play. Backup Mitch Trubisky entered and handed the ball off to Najee Harris, who was stopped at the line.
The Steelers were attempting to break a 3-all tie.
Arizona takes over on its own 1 with 4:51 to play in the half.
Cardinals-Steelers trading punts
The last four possessions have ended in punts.
The teams have not combined for six punts and two field goals.
Aside from a 38-yard pass for the Steelers, neither offense has been able to move the ball.
Each team has three first downs.
The Cardinals have just 26 yards of offense. They have benefitted from four Steelers penalties for 40 yards.
Kyler Murray is 3-for-8 passing for 24 yards. He was sacked once for a loss of 7.

Demercado's return questionable
Cardinals running back Emari Demercado, who left the game in the first quarter with an injury following a rough hit, is questionable to return.
After going into the injury tent, Demercado left the field and was being evaluated for a concussion and neck injury.

Cardinals gets moving
Facing a third-and-2, the Steelers fumble the snap and took a 6-yard loss. Pittsburgh punted and gave the Cardinals their best field position of the game.
Arizona started the possession at it's own 35. Kyler Murray completed a 13-yard pass to tight end Trey McBride.
A personal foul for unnecessary roughness against the Steelers extended the drive for the Cardinals two play later. That came at an expense as running back Emari Demercado was injured on the hit and remained on the ground for some time.
The Cardinals were forced to attempt a 51-yard field goal after the drive stalled at the Pittsburgh 38.
Matt Prater's kick was good.
The Cardinals defense held the Steelers to just 17 yards on their next possession.
Arizona will look to get something started from its own 16.

The Arizona Cardinals won the coin flip and deferred to the second half. The Steelers received the opening kickoff and quickly got to work.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett completed a 38-yard pass to Chukwuma Okorafor that did most of the work on a six-play 65-yard drive that set up a 29-yard field goal by Chris Boswell.
Arizona went three-and-out on its first possession. The Cardinals failed to gain a single yard in three downs.
