Arizona Cardinals make quick work of visiting LA Rams

Marvin Harrison Jr. caught four passes for 130 yards and the first two touchdowns of his career. James Conner rushed for more than 100 yards and surpassed the 5,000 career-yard mark. Matt Prater kicked a 57-yard field goal.

Oh, and the Arizona Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Rams 41-10. It was the Cardinals' largest margin of victory over the Rams since 2017.

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray was 17-for-21 passing for 266 yards and three touchdowns. He had five carries for 59 yards. Trey McBride had six catches for 67 yards and Emari Demercado broke out a 41-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Arizona started quickly with a pair of Harrison touchdowns in the first quarter. The Cardinals led 24-3 at the half and never slowed.

Murray completed passes to seven different receivers.

McBride and L.J. Collier recovered fumbles, with McBride's coming in the end zone and resulting in a touchdown.

Budda Baker led Arizona with 8 tackles. Dennis Gardeck recorded three sacks.

The Cardinals punted just once.

The Cardinals (1-1) host the Detroit Lions next week.

Clayton Tune, Emari Demercado get to play

After watching James Conner collect more than 120 yards, Emari Demercado got a turn on the field. The second-year pro gained 46 yards on two carries.

Quarterback Clayton Tune also took the field in the fourth quarter. His performance wasn't as strong. He fumbled a snap that was recovered by the Rams.

Trey McBride recovers fumble for TD

James Conner fumbled at the end of a 2-yard carry, but tight end Trey McBride was there to recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

The score gives the Cardinals a 41-10 lead over the Rames with 9:02 to play.

James Conner passes 5,000 career rushing yards

On a carry during the third quarter, Cardinals running back James Conner broke the 5,000-yard mark.

Conner is in his seventh NFL season. He spent the first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with the Cardinals as a free agent before the 2021 season.

Against the Rams, Conner has 21 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown with 9 minutes remaining. It was Conner's 15th career game with 100 or more rushing yards.

Rams injury update

Rams safety John Johnson has a shoulder injury and is questionable to return.

Johnson has two tackles.

Rams score late in third

A 4-yard run by Kyren Williams late in the third quarter gave the Rams their first TD of the game.

Williams has 25 yards on 12 carries.

The drive was fueled by passes of 21 and 22 yards by Matthew Stafford.

Prater good from 57

Cardinals kicker Matt Prater makes long field goals look routine.

He did it again in the third quarter against the Rams by booting a 57-yarder. Prater has 81 field goals of 50 yards or more. His career long is 64 yards.

Cardinals extend lead over Rams

Arizona got the ball to start the second half and wasted no time adding to its lead.

The Cardinals covered 70 yards on eight plays in 4:27. James Conner got the touchdown with a 5-yard run.

Aside from a 9-yard pass to Trey McBride, the Cardinals kept the ball on the ground. Kyler Murray had a scramble of 26 yards and Conner had a gain of 22 yards for the bulk of the distance.

Cooper Kupp doubtful to return

Rams WR Cooper Kupp is doubtful to return with an ankle injury against the Arizona Cardinals. The announcement was made 4 minutes into the second half.

Kupp has four catches for 37 yards against the Cardinals.

Cardinals lead Rams at the half

The Cardinals did everything they needed for a first-half victory against the Rams.

Kyler Murray was 10-for-12 for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked once, but had three carries for 23 yards.

Running back James Conner has 50 yards on nine carries. Wide receiver Marvin Harrision Jr. has four catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. Also with receptions were Michael Wilson, Elijah Higgins, Trey McBride, Trey Benson and Conner.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford is 12-for-18 for 126 yards and was sacked three times. Kyren Williams has the only carries for the Rams, getting 16 yards on nine attempts.

With a chance for a field goal, the Rams, instead, took a shot to the end zone, but the throw was uncatchable.

Rams, and Cardinals trade field goals

A 29-yard field goal was all the Rams got after a promising drive.

The key play was a 42-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Demarcus Robinson.

The Rams benefited from an unnecessary roughness penalty and worked their way to the Cardinals 5 before backing up on successive plays and kicking the field goal.

Arizona then got a 48-yard field goal from Matt Prater to reestablish the 21-point lead.

Cardinals add another TD

The Cardinals have had three possessions and three touchdowns.

The last came on a 99-yard drive that began inside the Cardinals own 1.

It was capped by an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Elijah Higgins.

Murray is 8-for-9 for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

Cardinals lead Rams 14-0 after first quarter

The Arizona Cardinals lead the Rams 14-0 after the first quarter.

The Rams have yet to pick up a first down, while the Cardinals have nine. The Cardinals have out-gained the Rames 202-13.

Marvin Harrison Jr. hits 100 receiving yards

Less than 12 minutes into Sunday's game against the Rams, Cardinals rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. has his first 100-yard receiving game.

Harrison crossed the mark with a 33-yard reception from Kyler Murray. That gives him 130 yards and two touchdowns on four catches.

Starting a drive inside their own 1-yard line, the Cardinals needed a quick gain. Kyler Murray went to Marvin Harrison Jr. along the sideline for a gain of 15 yards.

The play, similar to one a week ago in Buffalo that resulted in an incompletion, illustrated the connection between the QB and his No. 1 receiver.

In 10 minutes of play, Murray is 4-for-5 passing for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Harrison was the target on four of those attempts and has three catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Getting separation from his defender, Marvin Harrison Jr. caught his second pass — and second touchdown pass — of the game.

The 60-yard completion came on the first play of the Cardinals' second possession.

Kyler Murray completed a 23-yard pass to the back of the end zone for the first touchdown of Marvin Harrison Jr.'s young NFL career.

The rookie receiver had a quiet debut a week ago with one catch for 4 yards. The Arizona home crowd was anything but quiet after the catch gave the Cardinals a 7-0 lead.

Cardinals challenge early

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon threw the red challenge flag after just the third play of the game. The call of a completed catch by the Rams was quickly overturned.

Gannon threw the challenge flag just once during the 2023 season. He is now 2-0 on challenges during his career.

Cardinals win the coin toss

The Cardinals deferred. The Rams received the ball to start the game. Blake Corum returned the kickoff 41 yards.

Michael Phelps, Noah Lyles at Cardinals-Rams game

The Arizona Cardinals hosted a pair of Olympic gold medals in Michael Phelps and Noah Lyles on Sunday.

Phelps is the most decorated Olympic medalist of all time. Before he retired from professional swimming, Phelps earned 28 Olympic medals, including 23 gold medals.

Lyles won gold in the 100 meters at the 2024 Olympic Games. He also won bronze in the 200m in both the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

Lyles has his gold medal draped around his neck, but Phelps didn't have any of his. Instead, he shared the moment with his children.
