The Kansas City Chiefs are holding out hope that one of their key offensive figures has avoided a significant injury.

Running back Spencer Ware was carted off with a knee injury in Friday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. The team listed him as out for the remainder of the contest.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Ware had a knee sprain and that an MRI was scheduled for Saturday.

Ware was injured after catching a pass from Alex Smith for a 6-yard gain.

Ware, 25, led the Chiefs in rushing last year with 921 yards on 214 carries. The team drafted rookie Kareem Hunt from Toledo in the third round of April's NFL draft, while Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller add depth.
