The Indianapolis Colts had an up-and-down 2024 season.

Indianapolis remained in playoff contention up until the penultimate week of the regular season before losing to the two-win New York Giants and backup quarterback Drew Lock in Week 17. Headed into the 2025 NFL Draft, they currently hold all of their own draft picks – no more (and no less) than the seven they started with.

How general manager Chris Ballard uses those draft picks will determine whether the Colts can push themselves back into playoff contention in a shaky AFC South.

Along with their draft results, the Colts' short-term future will be determined by the upcoming starting quarterback battle between incumbent youngster Anthony Richardson and newcomer veteran Daniel Jones.

Here's everything to know about the Colts' draft outlook ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft:

Colts 2025 NFL Draft picks

  • Round 1 – No. 14 overall: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
    • Analysis from Paste BN Sports' Nate Davis: He’s quite the throwback, wearing No. 44 for the Nittany Lions as a tribute to Hall of Fame RB John Riggins ... and maybe he'll get the number from former Indy TE Dallas Clark. And if we’re going to cite Hall of Fame-caliber tight ends, Warren (6-6, 256) is more Rob Gronkowski than Travis Kelce – both a devastating receiver and physical blocker. He might be exactly what a team likely to have spotty quarterback play needs. The 2024 Mackey Award winner as college football’s top tight end, Warren led the Big Ten (and set a Penn State single-season record) with 104 receptions, which produced 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. He was also a Wildcat quarterback option and red-zone weapon, rushing for four additional scores. Warren also played basketball in high school, and his hops produced some thunderous dunks. He should be a more versatile weapon in the NFL than your typical tight end.
  • Round 2 – No. 45 overall: JT Tuimoloau, DT, Ohio State
    • Analysis from Paste BN Sports' Nate Davis: Indy picks up a 6-4, 265-pounder who produced 12½ sacks and 22 TFLs on the Buckeyes' run to the 2024 national title. All-Big Ten the past three seasons − he had 68 hurries in that span − Tuimoloau effectively replaces departed Dayo Odeyingbo and could form a nice duo with last year's Round 1 choice, Laiatu Latu.
  • Round 3 – No. 80 overall: Justin Walley, CB, Minnesota
  • Round 4 – No. 127 overall: Jalen Travis, OT, Iowa State
  • Round 5 – No. 151 overall: DJ Giddens, RB, Kansas State
  • Round 6 – No. 189 overall: Riley Leonard, QB, Syracuse

Analysis from Paste BN Sports' Jacob Camenker: The Colts wanted to add quarterback depth behind Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. Leonard ends up being their choice. He led the Fighting Irish to a national championship game appearance in his lone season with the team, showing excellent toughness and downhill running abilities that could make him a Taysom Hill-like threat at the NFL level.

Leonard doesn't have the strongest arm and settled mostly for short passes because of that at Notre Dame. He needs to work on his downfield accuracy and consistency, but he's still a worthwhile gamble at this point in the draft.

  • Round 6 – No. 190 overall (from Rams via Falcons): Tim Smith, DT, Alabama
  • Round 7 – No. 232 overall

Colts 2025 NFL Draft needs

Tight end

Indianapolis' leading tight end target last year was targeted just 31 times and caught just 14 passes for 182 yards. That was Kylen Granson, and he's gone after signing with the Eagles in free agency. Tight end is such a clear need for the Colts that one would be hard-pressed to find any mock draft that doesn't send one of the top tight ends in the 2025 draft class to Indy in Round 1.

Offensive line

The Colts' pass-block win-rate (56%) was among the lowest marks in the NFL (25th) in 2024, according to ESPN. If the team truly wants to give Richardson or Jones a chance to succeed in 2025, improving the offensive line is a must. It also wouldn't hurt to add younger talent given that both starters on the outside are set to hit free agency.

Colts 2025 NFL mock draft

Here's what the Colts could do come draft night, according to Paste BN Sports' Ayrton Ostly:

  • Round 1 – No. 14: TE Tyler Warren, Penn State
    • Indianapolis lost its two most productive tight ends in free agency this year and pick the versatile Warren here. He can be used all over the formation and be a contributor on offense in both the passing game as a receiver and the running game as a good blocker.
  • Round 2 – No. 45: OL Jonah Savaiinaea, Arizona
    • The Colts lost two starters on the interior offensive line in free agency. Savaiinaea is an athletic guard prospect who could fill in at that spot with experience at tackle as well.
  • Round 3 – No. 80: IOL Tate Ratledge, Georgia
  • Round 4 – No. 117: LB Smael Mondon Jr., Georgia
  • Round 5 – No. 151: CB Mello Dotson, Kansas
  • Round 6 – No. 189: TE Jake Briningstool, Clemson
  • Round 7 – No. 232: IOL Drew Kendall, Boston College
