Cowboys fill backfield need with Darren McFadden
The Dallas Cowboys didn't wait long to start trying to fill the gaping hole in their backfield.
The team has agreed to terms with former Oakland Raiders Darren McFadden, his agent, Ian Greengross, announced on Twitter on Friday.
The agreement with McFadden, 27, comes one day after the Cowboys lost the NFL's leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, to a five-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles that's worth up to $42 million.
Terms on McFadden's deal weren't immediately available. But he surely came at a price more palatable to the Cowboys, whose owner, Jerry Jones, released a statement Thursday night saying the decision not to increase their offer to Murray was driven by salary cap concerns.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2008 draft out of Jones' alma mater, Arkansas, McFadden has battled injuries throughout his career. He played in all 16 games for the first time last season but averaged just 3.4 yards on 155 carries for a Raiders team that struggled up front.
The Cowboys probably have the best offensive line in the NFL, and they're probably not done adding options to replace Murray, who had 392 carries in 2014.
