Cowboys acquire RB Christine Michael from Seahawks to bolster backfield

The Dallas Cowboys start their 2015 season in seven days, yet they're still tinkering with their backfield.

Seeking the right combination of bodies to create a committee capable of replacing 2014 rushing champion DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys acquired tailback Christine Michael from the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday for a conditional draft pick in 2016.

A second rounder in 2013 once thought to be the possible successor to Marshawn Lynch, Michael never managed to create much of a role for himself in Seattle, earning just 52 carries (for 254 yards) in his first two seasons. The Seahawks' addition of veteran Fred Jackson also clearly meant diminished responsibility for Michael in 2015, even though Lynch's former backup, Robert Turbin, was waived-injured Saturday.

However perhaps a return to his native Texas — and operating behind Dallas' first-rate offensive line — will recharge Michael.

He was viewed as a high-end talent coming out of Texas A&M, but injury and maturity issues were red flags that accompanied his resume prior to the 2013 draft. He now joins Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar in Dallas' effort to replace the 1,845 rushing yards Murray provided last year before joining the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in March.
