Chiefs lose Charles

It might be another lost season for Jamaal Charles in Kansas City.

The Chiefs running back played just five games last season before tearing his right anterior, and now Charles is once again headed to injured reserve after suffering a setback last week, a person with knowledge of the move told Paste BN Sports' Tom Pelissero. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced.

Charles returned in Week 5 but played in just three games as a backup to Spencer Ware. He needs a second surgery on his right knee and never fully recovered from the ailment he suffered in 2015.

He rushed for just 40 yards on 12 rushes this season, and at 29 in his ninth NFL season, it's fair to wonder if this is the end of the road.

Charles was once one of the game's premier talents, but he lacked his signature burst this season. He missed Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, and coach Andy Reid said Charles would be evaluated by Dr. James Andrews.

If he recovers, he can return in Week 17, when the Chiefs could be battling for a playoff spot against the San Diego Chargers.

The Chiefs signed Bishop Sankey earlier Tuesday, who joins Charcandrick West and starter Ware, who is mired in the league's concussion protocol, in the backfield.

Cowboys lose two starters in secondary

The Dallas Cowboys' defense will have to find a way to move ahead in the coming weeks without two key players.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan that cornerback Morris Claiborne (sports hernia) and strong safety Barry Church (fractured forearm) would both likely miss "a month to six weeks."

Claiborne has been one of the top contributors on Dallas' defense, while Church has a team-best two interceptions.

Bills DB Williams to IR

Aaron Williams' season is in all likelihood over.

The Buffalo Bills placed the safety on injured reserve Tuesday. Williams suffered a neck injury on a brutal hit from Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry that drew a flag and later a fine from the NFL.

"He'll take this time to get healthy and then he will make the decision on whether or not to play," Bills general manager Doug Whaley said of Williams evaluating whether to continue his career.

Report: Jets reach agreement with C.J. Spiller

The Jets' backfield was in serious motion Tuesday, with Knile Davis coming — and then going — and C.J. Spiller set to head to New York.

Just a few hours after claiming Davis off waivers from the Green Bay Packers to bolster their running backs spot, the Jets reached an agreement with Spiller, a person with direct knowledge of the team's plans told The Associated Press.

Davis will be waived when the Jets sign Spiller on Wednesday, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced its plans.

The person told the AP that New York was in discussions earlier Tuesday to sign Spiller, but had not received a firm commitment. So, the Jets claimed Davis as insurance — a couple of hours before reaching an agreement with Spiller.

NFL Network first reported the Jets' intentions to sign Spiller.

Lions' Armonty Bryant suspended

The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday that Armonty Bryant was suspended three games for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse. Detroit signed Bryant last month. He was cut by Cleveland at the end of a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The Lions indicated that this suspension was not related to anything that happened since Bryant joined the team — and it didn't come out of nowhere.

Bryant has not been a starter for the Lions, but he did have a sack in each of the last two games. He'll be eligible to return after Detroit's game against Minnesota on Thanksgiving.
