Ventell Bryant, a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver who primarily contributed on special teams last season, was arrested early Wednesday morning on an alleged incident of driving under the influence in Tampa.

According to police, Bryant, 23, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. after a traffic stop during which he was detained because he was driving without his headlights on. Police said that Bryant “exhibited several clues of impairment and admitted to drinking several margaritas.”

Police conducted a field sobriety test that produced results of .102 and .099 blood alcohol content, exceeding the state legal limit of .08. According to the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office, Bryant was booked at 4:45 a.m. but later released on a $500 bond.

Bryant may be a long shot to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster for the 2020 season, the first under coach Mike McCarthy. He was added to Dallas’ practice squad on September 2 after the Cincinnati Bengals waived him during final roster cuts before the start of the season on August 31.

The Cowboys elevated Bryant to the 53-man roster in October. He appeared in 12 games, had six tackles and was targeted on one pass. The target came in a 26-15 loss in Week 13 against the Bills and was a 15-yard touchdown reception.

Bryant played football at Temple University, where he is the all-time receiving leader in both receptions (173) and yards (2,444).
