Dolphins' Xavien Howard, Bengals' Tyler Boyd ejected for fight

Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard was ejected from Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals for throwing a punch.

Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd was also ejected.

Howard and Boyd became entangled after an incomplete pass on third-and-10. Howard was in coverage on the play.

After the play, Howard and Boyd exchanged blows to the other's helmet.

The Bengals were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving league officials in New York a chance to review the footage for ejection-worthy offenses, according to CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore.

After the review, both Howard and Boyd were adjudged to have thrown punches and were ejected from the game.

Only the Bengals were assessed a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, though, pushing the ball back to the Dolphins' 35-yard line. That's because league officials in New York can't assess penalties based upon review, according to Steratore

The resulting 53-yard field goal was wide left.

The Dolphins took over at their 43, and Tua Tagovailoa led Miami to the Bengals' 30, setting up a 48-yard Jason Sanders field goal as time expired in the first half.

The 15-yard penalty against the Bengals resulted in a six-point swing, as the Dolphins went from a potential 10-3 halftime deficit to being down 7-6 at the break.

Earlier in the game, Howard recorded an interception to extend his NFL-best total to eight.
