Tyreek Hill full detainment timeline after Dolphins WR's traffic violations dismissed

The case is closed for one of the most problematic incidents the 2024 NFL season has seen so far.

Traffic violations that led to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill's detainment in September have been dismissed. Adam Goodman, Hill's Miami-based attorney, told Paste BN Sports Tuesday that the officer who issued the tickets did not appear at the hearing.

Hill was cited for careless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt while on his way to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for the Dolphins' season opener. The situation escalated after the traffic stop and led to Hill's detainment in handcuffs.

The receiver was eventually released and played in the Dolphins' game later that day. Now that his violations have been dismissed, he won't have to pay the associated fines.

"Where all the internet cops now," Hill wrote in a post on social media platform X after the news broke.

With the recent news of the dismissal, as well as with Hill and the Dolphins' upcoming Thanksgiving game against the Packers in Green Bay, here's a full timeline of the star receiver's detainment:

  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 10:39 a.m. ET: Hill is cited for "careless driving." He receives a citation for "safety belt violation" one minute later. Around this time, teammates Jonnu Smith and Calais Campbell see the incident and stop to help Hill. Campbell is also briefly detained at this time.
  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 10:58 a.m. ET: ESPN's Adam Schefter posts a video of Hill on the ground in handcuffs. He initially writes that Hill was "arrest[ed]."
  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 11:02 a.m. ET: Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says the receiver would play in the Dolphins' Week 1 game against the Jaguars.
  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 12:37 p.m. ET: Schefter clarifies that Hill was merely detained, not arrested.
  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 1 p.m. ET: Jaguars at Dolphins kicks off with Hill active for the game.
  • Sept. 8, 2024 - 3:20 p.m. ET: Hill scores a touchdown, his first of the season, and pretends to be handcuffed as part of his celebration
  • Sept. 9, 2024: Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 posts a video of the officer's body cam during the incident to social media site X.
  • Sept. 10, 2024: Miami-Dade Police identifies Danny Torres as the primary officer involved in the escalation of the incident and announces he had been placed on administrative leave. Later, Hill's attorney, Julius Collins, releases a statement on behalf of the wide receiver calling for Torres, the "escalating officer," to be fired.
  • Sept. 11, 2024: During his Wednesday media availability, Hill reiterates his belief that Torres should be fired for his treatment of both Hill and Campbell. The Fritz Pollard Alliance, "a non-profit that serves to level the playing field through education, access, and advocacy in the NFL," also releases a statement condemning the actions of the Miami-Dade police officers involved.
  • Nov. 26, 2024: News breaks that Hill's traffic citations have been dismissed.
