Final preparations for Trae Waynes underway before NFL draft

Paste BN Sports has assembled a talented team of prospects to chronicle their paths to the NFL draft. Today's entry is from Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes, a first-team All-Big Ten pick and Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist who could be the first cornerback selected.

I'm in Michigan right now, just kind of relaxing. I'm going to the spring game on Saturday, and then I've got this charity thing, and then my next stop will be Chicago for the draft.

I'm going to fly from school on Tuesday. Fortunately for me, Chicago's a lot closer than New York, so it's a lot easier for family and whatnot to come down from Kenosha, Wis. It's only like a 50-mile drive. I have no idea how many people are coming, really.

I've been done with private workouts for a while. I've been on visits to Minnesota, Jacksonville, Chicago and St. Louis. It's been great, being able to see all their facilities and whatnot, meeting all the coaches again. It's been a really interesting experience.

To this point, I'd probably say winning the Rose Bowl my sophomore year is my greatest accomplishment in sports. It was just a phenomenal experience, something our team had been talking about for a while now. You couldn't ask for a better season.

When I get drafted, though, that'll be number one on the list for sure. No doubt about it. I haven't even thought about how it'll feel to be on that stage, honestly. I'm just taking it one day at a time, not trying to think too much about it.

I've got certain goals for myself, like eventually becoming a starter and then hopefully a Pro Bowler and so forth. But I'm not going to jump the gun and say all these accomplishments and whatnot that haven't even happened. My goal ultimately is just to be the best I can be.

This whole process has been nonstop, just constantly being busy and moving around from place to place, not really having much relaxation time. It's going to be so crazy in Chicago, too. All I know is a whole bunch of events. I'm going to be busy every day from sun up to sun down.

I should be able to enjoy it, though. I don't think the butterflies will kick in until the night before.
