Derrick Henry lands with Titans in second round of NFL draft

Alabama running back Derrick Henry has rumbled into the NFL. Now it's up to the supersized ball-carrier to prove he can thrive at the next level.

The Titans selected Henry in the second round of the NFL draft Friday with the 45th overall pick, giving them another weapon on the ground along with newly acquired running back DeMarco Murray.

The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner was one of the most prolific running backs in college football history, totaling a Southeastern Conference record 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in his lone season as a starter at Alabama. He impressed at the NFL scouting combine by running a 4.54-second 40-yard dash and recording a 37-inch vertical leap.

But in the NFL, Henry might be facing a new set of challenges.

Few backs - or defenders -  can match the 6-foot-3, 247-pound Henry's strength. But some have questioned whether he has the quickness to complement his downhill running style.

Henry also faces concerns about his long-term viability in the NFL. He logged 395 carries last year — 68 more than NFL leader Adrian Peterson — for the Crimson Tide.

"I like making plays and having the ball in my hands, but I wouldn't really say (I need) a heavy workload," Henry told Paste BN Sports before the draft. "I just love making plays for my team."
