The total number of picks in a given NFL Draft can change every year. So how many draft picks will there be in the 2025 NFL Draft?

This year, there will be 257 picks in the draft. It's the second straight year of exactly that many total picks in the draft – a small decrease from the 259 selections there were in 2023 and 262 picks in 2022.

There are several reasons the number of picks can change from year to year. The most obvious is that the number of compensatory picks the league hands out to teams changes each year, depending on how free agency shakes out. Picks might also be forfeited by teams that break various league rules.

This year, the Atlanta Falcons had to forfeit their fifth-round pick for violating the NFL's tampering rules while pursuing free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins last offseason.
