The Miami Dolphins have been lost at sea.

It's been anything but an easy offseason for the 'Phins, who have been forced to navigate trade rumors and constant speculation surrounding Tyreek Hill. To make matters worse, they've since included Jalen Ramsey in the chatter as they work to find a trade for the star cornerback.

In other words, the 2025 Dolphins are still very much under construction.

No one knows what the future holds for Mike McDaniel's team, which took a big step back in 2024. They used to get by on athleticism and speed, but the league has since caught up. It remains to be seen if that will still be their identity going forward, especially if Hill is packing his bags.

Miami has work to do, especially in the trenches if they want to compete next season and beyond.

The conversation surrounding the Dolphins' shortcomings in recent years have been centered on injuries and weather. They'll look to use the draft to close that talent gap and minimize the things out of their control.

Paste BN Sports is giving out grades during the 2025 NFL Draft. Here's a look at the Dolphins' report card.

Dolphins NFL draft grades

Round 1, Pick 13: Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: B

Miami has a massive need at defensive tackle and get a massive prospect to fill that need. Grant is a lot of projection at this point but has ridiculous athletic tools considering his 6-foot-3, 330-pound frame. He's a great fit for the Dolphins at nose tackle. There aren't many offensive linemen worth taking at this point and Grant has a high ceiling at the position.

The Dolphins were determined to address the defense, which has lost safety Jevon Holland and defensive tackle Calais Campbell since the end of last season via free agency and are in position to lose cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Dolphins bypassed a top cornerback in Texas' Jaedah Barron to take Grant. Perhaps they feel they can address the secondary in Rounds 2 and 3.

Round 2, Pick 37: Jonah Savaiinaea, OG, Arizona

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: B+

The Dolphins signed James Daniels in free agency but still could use some reinforcements on the offensive line. Savaiinaea played tackle at Arizona but projects best at guard at the NFL level. Miami's prioritizing protection for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with a guard who should fit their philosophy well.

Round 5, Pick 143: Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: B+

Miami had a huge need on the defensive line, especially on the interior, and invest again with their first pick of Day 3. Phillips is a nice compliment to first-rounder Kenneth Grant as an explosive rusher who is light on his feet. He's one of the younger prospects and will have the chance to grow into a bigger role on his rookie contract.

Round 6, Pick 179: Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: B

Gordon is a departure from what the Dolphins typically look for in a running back as he's not a breakaway speedster at the position. He had a much better year in 2023 than in 2024 but was productive for the Cowboys in both seasons. In Miami, he offers a change-of-pace element alongside De'Von Achane.

Round 7, Pick 231: Quinn Ewers, Texas, QB

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: A

Ewers was widely expected to go multiple rounds earlier than this so the Dolphins get great value in Round 7. He needs time to develop some of his shortcomings as a passer but his foundational traits of arm strength and mobility make him a good backup to Tua Tagovailoa even as a rookie.

Round 7, Pick 253 (compensatory): Zeek Biggers, DT, Georgia Tech

  • Ayrton Ostly, Paste BN Sports: A

Biggers is a lot of projection at this point of his development but he has plenty of tools to excite defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. He's 6-foot-5 and 322 pounds with 35 3/4-inch long arms and ran 5.09 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Those are rare athletic numbers. He's shown flashes in his Georgia Tech career and has tools. He just needs more time to maximize them.
