Sam Bradford says he's 'excited' to return to Philadelphia Eagles on Monday
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford’s threatened boycott didn’t last long.
Bradford was at the team's practice facility as the Eagles began their offseason conditioning program on Monday. Bradford’s agent requested a trade and said his client wouldn’t take part in the Eagles’ voluntary workouts two weeks ago.
"I'm excited to be back on the field today with my teammates and coaches," Bradford said in a statement provided to ESPN. "The business-side of football is sometimes a necessary consideration. My attention and efforts are focused on the participation in and preparation for a championship season: I am committed to my teammates and the Eagles organization for nothing less."
Bradford, 28, re-signed with the Eagles in March, a two-year extension that has $22 million guaranteed and a max value of $40 million. But then the Eagles made the massive deal with the Cleveland Browns to move up to No. 2 overall in last month’s draft where Philly selected former North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.
“At the end of the day, all that we really care about in the locker room is who is the best quarterback who is going to help us win games,” Eagles defensive end Connor Barwin told Philly sportstalk station WIP-AM. “I think right now we’re excited and we know we draft Carson Wentz, but I think most of this locker room — or if not all of us — understand that Sam is our starting quarterback and he’s going to be the best quarterback to help us win next year. So we’re all excited to have him back.”
