Giants' Nate Solder: 'There is no football in 2020' if NFL doesn't keep players healthy

New York Giants offensive tackle Nate Solder sent an ominous warning on social media Friday about the immediate future of the upcoming NFL season.

"If the NFL doesn’t do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020," Solder wrote on his verified Twitter account. "It’s that simple."

Solder serves as the Giants' NFLPA representative, and the players' union was conducting a conference call Friday afternoon with several significant issues still to be resolved in negotiations with league officials with the start of training camps set for July 28.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing all parties to come together with the promise of getting the upcoming season off the ground, beginning with training camp and a debate over the preseason, NFLPA present JC Tretter wrote in a recent blog post that the league "is unwilling to prioritize player safety and believes that the virus will bend to football."

The NFL has stated since the spring that it still plans on playing (and completing) the 2020 season as scheduled despite issues brought to the forefront due to the pandemic.

According to an NFL Network report, members of the NFL Management Council Executive Committee and the NFLPA Executive Committee have a call scheduled Monday to continue working through issues such as testing protocols, report dates, player opt-outs and compensation.
