Former Falcons RB Devonta Freeman expected to sign with Giants

Devonta Freeman is in the process of completing his entry testing protocols with the New York Giants on Tuesday afternoon and the expectation is that the former Falcons star running back will sign with the team, a person with knowledge of the situation told NorthJersey.com and the Paste BN Network.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized.
The presence of Freeman will be looked upon to help compensate for the devastating loss of Giants star Saquon Barkley, who tore the ACL in his right knee on the first play of the second quarter in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Bears. He is out for the season and was placed on injured reserve earlier Tuesday.
Considered one of the top free agents remaining on the market, the 28-year-old Freeman spent the weekend in the Philadelphia area with a prospective visit with the Eagles upcoming before heading up the New Jersey Turnpike to begin the process Monday with the Giants.
The Giants won't be able to easily make up for the absence of their best player in Barkley, but they'll look to upgrade the position the best they can with options available.
A two-time Pro Bowler for the Falcons in 2015 and 2016, Freeman gained 1,066 yards from scrimmage and six total touchdowns in 2019. He averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry on 184 rushing attempts.
