Geno Smith's knee injury puts Ryan Fitzpatrick back in Jets lineup

Ryan Fitzpatrick's benching by the New York Jets might have been short-lived.

Geno Smith, who was promoted to starting quarterback this week, left Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens with a right knee injury after taking a third-down sack in the second quarter. He was later ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

The former starter Fitzpatrick, who was benched after the Jets sunk to 1-5 last Monday, took Smith's place in the game.

Smith completed four of eight passes for 95 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.

With Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg inactive, Fitzpatrick was Jets coach Todd Bowles' lone option at quarterback. The veteran had a league-high 11 interceptions through the first six weeks of the season.

Bowles said after the 24-16 win that Smith would undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

In other Week 7 injury news:

— Redskins cornerback Josh Norman suffered a concussion and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

— Lions cornerback Darius Slay went to the locker room with a hamstring injury and did not return.
