Jets QB Bryce Petty's first TD pass comes on hook and lateral
The New York Jets might not solve their quarterback problem today, but Bryce Petty is certainly making things interesting in his first career NFL start.
Petty, a fourth-round pick out of Baylor in 2015, led a 99-yard touchdown drive against the Los Angeles Rams in the first quarter, capped by his first career touchdown.
And it was no ordinary touchdown.
Petty threw a short pass to Brandon Marshall, who lateraled to Bilal Powell at the 4-yard line — a perfectly executed hook-and-lateral play.
Petty was inserted into the lineup Sunday morning after the team decided veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who suffered a sprain MCL last weekend, was not healthy enough to go.
Petty is the third quarterback to start for the Jets this season. Geno Smith replaced Fitzpatrick, who leads the league in interceptions, last month but tore an ACL.
