Robert Saleh says he and Elijah Moore are fine amid WR's frustration
New York Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore tweeted some frustration Sunday about his lack of opportunities, particularly in Week 6’s win over the Green Bay Packers. That may have just been a loud therapy session for him and now all is good in the world between him and his coach.
Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Monday he spoke with Moore about the tweets and understands Moore just wants to contribute to the team.
“He’s fine. He’s a competitive young man,” Saleh said. “Like everybody, when you're a competitor like him, he wants to contribute.”
Saleh also added that contributions don’t always just come from on-field production.
“I’ve got no problem with Elijah," he said. "He’s one of our high-character individuals. Love him to death and eventually the production part of it that he's hoping for will come.”
Through six games, Moore ranks fifth on the team in yards (203) and targets (29) and is sixth on the team in receptions with 16. However, he does rank third on the team in catches for a first down with 11, behind only Corey Davis (17) and Garrett Wilson (11).
Moore’s 12.7 yards per catch ranks second among players with at least ten catches behind only Davis at 18.5.
Moore’s opportunity will come as teams possibly start to focus more on Davis and Wilson on the outside and things should start opening up again for him. Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur likely know that too.
