Green Bay Packers keep CB Sam Shields in fold

The Green Bay Packers didn't let cornerback Sam Shields hit free agency after all.

Shields agreed to terms Saturday on a four-year, $39 million deal that keeps him in Green Bay, a person with knowledge of the contract told Paste BN Sports on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't announced it.

Shields got a $12.5 million signing bonus as part of $15 million in the first year, the person said. Shields is due $21 million through two years and $30 million through three.

The Packers had passed on using the franchise tag to make sure Shields didn't leave. But they struck a deal hours after the NFL's "legal tampering" window opened.

Shields, 26, has started 35 games over four NFL seasons.
