Thomas Davis wins NFLPA's top honor for community service
SAN FRANCISCO – Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is the winner of the Byron “Whizzer” White Award, the highest honor given by the NFL Players Association, for his community service efforts.
In 2008, Davis established the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation, which hosts various events and giveaways benefiting underprivileged kids in North Carolina, South Carolina and George, where Davis played in college. He previously won the 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given by the NFL.
With the Panthers and Davis in preparations for Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos, his wife, Kelly, accepted the award on his behalf.
The other finalists were: New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings, Detroit Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch, Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker and New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson.
