Could Julian Edelman be forced into QB role for Patriots?
New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepped in for Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday when Garoppolo injured his shoulder against the Miami Dolphins. But with Garoppolo ruled out for at least the remainder of the game, who would be Brissett's backup?
The logical answer would be none other than wide receiver Julian Edelman.
Edelman, a seventh-round draft pick in the 2009 NFL draft, started at quarterback for three years at Kent State and was converted to a receiver under Bill Belichick.
Edelman never had eye-popping passing stats in college. His most impressive season was his senior year, during which he threw for 13 touchdowns and ran for another 13.
But on a roster with no other quarterbacks currently available, Edelman might be the best option.
