Rob Gronkowski’s season is officially over.

One day after the star tight end underwent back surgery, the New England Patriots placed him on injured reserve, according to a person with access to the NFL’s internal transaction wire.

The Patriots already used their one designated-to-return spot on backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, so placing Gronkowski on IR means he cannot play again this season.
