New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been reluctant to discuss his bond with President Trump, but Trump is grateful for the friendship, a top adviser said in an interview  Tuesday.

“President Trump is just so grateful that friends like Tom Brady are loyal and can ignore the shrapnel, the verbal shrapnel,” Kellyanne Conway said on Fox News Channel. “I assume the same with Bob Kraft, the owner of the team, who is a good friend of the president’s, who came to the inauguration, and is just a fabulous man and leader in this country.”

Brady, whose Patriots face the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl on Feb. 5, said in a radio interview on Monday that he doesn’t know why everybody make such a big deal about his friendship with Trump that stretches back several years.

“I don’t want to get into it, but if you know someone it doesn’t mean you agree with everything they say or they do. You have a lot of friends in your life,” Brady told Boston's WEEI. “I think there are things that are based in your own dealings with someone that is a personal dealing, not a public dealing. Because you have personal experiences.”

Conway had advice for Brady and others who catch flak for having ties to Trump.

“Just ignore the naysayers and critics,” Conway said. “I mean, we are very accustomed to this.”
