Tom Brady says not to 'read into anything' by linking Patriots contract, house up for sale

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said not to "read into anything" with his Massachusetts home recently being put up on the market around the same time that the 42-year-old signed a new contract that would make him a free agent after the 2019 season.

"I think it takes a long time to sell a house. My house is a little bit of an expensive one, so it doesn't fly off the shelf in a couple weeks," Brady said in a radio interview with WEEI as part of his weekly in-season appearances. "I think I am at a point in my life where there are a lot of considerations that go into playing. I have a very busy professional life, I have a very busy personal life and any decision that is made has to consider everything.

"I am certainly at a place — we have been at the same place for a long time and I love playing for the Patriots. I have such a great relationship with Mr. Kraft and coach Belichick and our team. We’ll worry about that when that happens. This isn’t the time to worry about it.”

Brady signed a two-year extension through 2021 that pays him $23 million this season. The new deal, according to reports, includes two years that automatically void if not renegotiated by the completion of the 2019 league year. The Patriots also agreed not to place the franchise tag on him, per reports, meaning he could hit free agency after the season if a restructured agreement isn't reached.

Brady has been the team's quarterback since the 2001 season.

When pressed about his plans in 2020, Brady redirected to the immediate future.

"I think I'm in a great mental, emotional place to approach the season," Brady said in the radio interview. "There is no point in worrying about things like that. There are so many hypotheticals — this and that — and if you spend time all your time and energy on those things, you (lose) track of what's most important, which is what's happening right now. This is where I want to be. This is the team I want to be a part of and leading. There's really not much to read into it than that.

"It takes a lot to get from now to March, and I don't want to overlook the big challenge that we're facing. I don't want my mind convoluted with thoughts that are premature, and ones that I'm worried about beyond what the current situation is — which is us trying to go achieve what we all hope we can achieve. That's where my focus is and that's what I'm excited about. So let's go baby! Put me in Coach. I'm ready to go play."

The six-time Super Bowl-winning QB and his supermodel wife, Gisele Bundchen, put their home in Brookline, Mass., on sale for a cool $39.5 million, according to a listing on Barrett/Sotheby's International Realty.

Brady downplayed the idea of having different homes, noting his interest in building homes and architectural design.

"We have a great home in New York and we’ve spent time in California over the years," Brady said. "My son lives in New York. I have spent time in California. We have a home in Costa Rica we’ve gone to for 12 years. We have a home in Montana we’ve gone to. I think we just have been blessed to have our kids experience the world. My wife is from Brazil. We do a lot of travel. We built our home in California. We sold it. We built this one in Boston. We’re just fortunate enough to have options and we’ll decide when the time comes. I don’t want to put any pressure on myself to have to decide, to determine things without having feelings and emotions of what that moment is like for me."
