Patriots lineman Trent Brown says he 'almost died' after IV mishap with Raiders
Trent Brown said Tuesday he "almost died" after an IV mishap last year with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Brown had been going through his normal gameday routine on Nov. 1, 2020 when air entered his bloodstream through the IV. He was hospitalized for three days and the offensive tackle said he nearly went into cardiac arrest before a game against the Cleveland Browns.
Now in his second stint with the New England Patriots, Brown finally faced the Browns on Sunday.
"I almost died before we played them last year," Brown said, via NFL.com. "When I was laid out on the floor, I definitely thought about my kids. I even thought about retiring, honestly. It was that scary. I was about to be done with it. Then after it kind of settled down a bit, I was fine."
Brown returned later that season for three games, but said the full recovery process took about eight months. He missed a chunk of this year with a calf injury.
A seventh-round draft pick, Brown played the first three seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers before landing in New England prior to the 2018 season. The University of Florida product started every game at left tackle that season as the Patriots won the Super Bowl.
Brown was rewarded with a four-year, $66 million deal by the Raiders that offseason and made the Pro Bowl in 2019 before his eventful and scary 2020.
