Report: Rams WR Cooper Kupp has sprained ankle, could play Week 9 vs. Buccaneers
The Los Angeles Rams may have dodged a bullet at the end of their 31-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers Sunday. Cooper Kupp caught a pass with about a minute left and was tackled awkwardly, causing him to lay on the turf for a little while.
He was tended to by trainers and eventually walked off the field under his own power, which was a good sign. After the game, he said he was feeling OK but had his ankle wrapped and was walking with a limp.
However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared an encouraging update Monday. Kupp suffered a low ankle sprain and is considered day-to-day. Rapoport said Kupp has a chance to play this week against the Buccaneers, which is good to hear.
The fact that Kupp was even in the game in the final minutes of a 17-point blowout is questionable on its own, but for him to even catch a pass on a screen and be put in harm’s way is worse.
Sean McVay said after the game, “I’m kicking myself for not running the ball again,” regretting the decision to even put Kupp in a spot where he could get hurt.
