Rams 2025 offseason preview: Pending free agents, positions of need, draft picks and more
The Los Angeles Rams have entered offseason mode after getting eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs. Though they can't sign any players until March or draft anyone until April, they've certainly begun doing their due diligence on this year's free-agent class and incoming group of rookies.
It's an important offseason for the entire organization because of the team's Super Bowl aspirations this year and next. Though their championship window should stay open for several more years, capitalizing on these last few seasons with Matthew Stafford is essential.
With the roster-building process right around the corner, here's an offseason primer for Los Angeles in 2025.
Pending free agents
Several starters from the 2024 season will become free agents in March, potentially leaving to sign with other teams. The Rams won't be able to keep all of them but they will likely prioritize key players such as Alaric Jackson, Ahkello Witherspoon and Demarcus Robinson.
Below is a complete list of the Rams' pending free agents, as well as the number of starts they made for the team in 2024.
- LT Joe Noteboom (4 starts)
- LT Alaric Jackson (14)
- WR Demarcus Robinson (17)
- QB Jimmy Garoppolo (1)
- OLB Michael Hoecht (5)
- WR Tutu Atwell (5)
- LB Christian Rozeboom (11)
- S John Johnson III (1)
- TE Hunter Long (2)
- CB Ahkello Witherspoon (5)
- OG Conor McDermott (0)
- DL Larrell Murchison (0)
- WR Tyler Johnson (2)
- LB Troy Reeder (6)
- DT Neville Gallimore (4)
- NT Bobby Brown III (16)
- RB Ronnie Rivers (0, RFA)
- LB Jake Hummel (1, RFA)
- C Dylan McMahon (0, ERFA)
Positions of need
As long as Matthew Stafford returns, the Rams' roster will be in good shape overall. They're set at several positions thanks to high-end starters and quality depth, but as is the case with every team, there will be spots that need to be addressed.
- Offensive tackle: If Alaric Jackson leaves in free agency, there's no doubt this will be the Rams' top need. It could still be addressed even if Jackson returns because Rob Havenstein isn't getting any younger at right tackle.
- Wide receiver: Cooper Kupp's future is uncertain and both Robinson and Atwell are pending free agents. The Rams need more talent around Puka Nacua.
- Tight end: Tyler Higbee was a big part of the offense down the stretch but Los Angeles still needs a tight end who can stretch the field vertically.
- Inside linebacker: This was the biggest weakness on an otherwise impressive defense, and it showed against the Eagles. The Rams need an upgrade from Rozeboom.
- Cornerback: Cobie Durant and Darious Williams are still under contract but Witherspoon is a free agent and there isn't much proven talent within this position group.
Draft picks
The Rams are slated to have seven picks in the NFL draft this year. They don't have a second-rounder after trading up for Braden Fiske last year, nor do they have fifth- or seventh-round selections due to trades involving Van Jefferson and Kevin Dotson.
5 biggest cap hits in 2025
These five players are slated to take up the most cap space on the roster in 2025, though it's possible there will be tweaks made to Stafford and Kupp's contracts.
As of now, the Rams are projected to have $46.6 million in cap space, which is 10th-most in the NFL.
- QB Matthew Stafford: $49.67 million
- WR Cooper Kupp: $29.78 million
- RG Kevin Dotson: $17.92 million
- OL Jonah Jackson: $14.67 million
- RT Rob Havenstein: $11.37 million
Dead money
The Rams don't have many players eating up space with dead money, which is good news. Noteboom's contract will void this year and take up $10 million in dead cap, while Donald's retirement will leave the Rams with $9.67 million in dead money this year, too.
- Joe Noteboom (void): $10 million
- Aaron Donald (retired): $9.67 million
