Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith and his family are safe after being robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night, according to a report from The Athletic on Friday.

The outlet reported that Smith and his family were followed from Los Angeles International Airport to an area hotel, where the robbery occurred.

"We are aware of the situation involving Jimmy Smith," the Ravens said in a statement Friday afternoon. "We have spoken with Jimmy, and he and his family are safe."

Additional details surrounding the reported incident – including whether any arrests were made – were immediately unclear.

Smith, 32, is a 10-year NFL veteran who has spent his entire career with Baltimore. The 27th overall pick in the 2011 draft, he has racked up 14 interceptions and started 88 games for the Ravens to date, including five starts last year.
