Saints' Daniel Lasco taken off field in ambulance after hit on kick return
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – A scary scene developed after New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco was taken off the field in an ambulance following a collision on a kickoff return against the Buffalo Bills.
Early in the second quarter of Sunday’s game, Lasco charged down the field on special teams coverage and struck Bills receiver Brandon Tate, forcing the tackle. During the collision, it appeared that Lasco sustained significant force to his head.
Play was stopped for several minutes. At first, the medical crew brought out a stretcher, and shortly after, an ambulance drove onto the field ready to take Lasco away.
The Saints said Lasco suffered a spine injury but had feeling in his extremities and was being tended to by a team doctor.
"I think all the signs were positive," Saints coach Sean Payton said after the game. "His movement and everything. I think that's very encouraging."
After trainers had put Lasco on the stretcher, the entire Saints team surrounded him before he was taken into the ambulance.
Lasco waved his hand, which drew some applause from his teammates. The crowd at New Era Field gave Lasco a standing ovation.
