Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has one preference for footballs
TEMPE, Ariz. – New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick went into great detail about the lengthy process that goes into preparing his team's game day footballs – part of his way of explaining how the Patriots' footballs could have ended up underinflated in the AFC Championship Game.
Belichick described process that involves vigorous rubbing and other hands-on work to get the ball to just the right level of tackiness that quarterback Tom Brady prefers.
So does the Super Bowl's other quarterback, Seattle Seahawks' Russell Wilson, go to similar extremes?
Not even close.
Wilson was asked by Paste BN Sports on Sunday upon the team's arrival in Arizona for Super Bowl XLIX if he had a preferred pounds per square inch (PSI) for his game footballs, or if he had a process to get his footballs ready for kickoff.
"As long as it has laces. I'm ready to go, I'm ready to throw them," Wilson said.
Wilson said the only time he'll reject a football is if "the strings are messed up, somehow, some way."
"I'll say, 'Nah, I don't like that one,'" Wilson said.
Wilson was a collegiate and minor league baseball player, so he can understand the weird preferences that some players – pitchers, especially – have about the way a ball feels.
He's just not among them.
"But yeah, just as long as I have a football in my hands," Wilson said.
